01 Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how GiphyFy ("GiphyFy", "we", "us") handles information when you use the GiphyFy Discord bot, this website, the web-based GiphyFy Studio, and GiphyFy Studio Pro (together, the "Services").
The short version: GiphyFy is designed to do as little with your data as possible. We process the content you ask us to turn into a GIF only for as long as it takes to create and deliver it, and we do not build profiles of you.
02 Who we are
The Services are operated by Nariaris, the developer of GiphyFy. You can reach us through our Discord support server.
03 Data we process
Depending on how you use GiphyFy, we may process the following:
When you use the bot
- Message content you select. When you create a screenshot GIF, we read the text, author username and display name, avatar, timestamp, and role colour of the message you choose, so we can render it.
- Files you upload. When you use /giphyfy, we download the image or video you attach in order to convert it to a GIF.
- Links you provide. When you use /embed, the link you give us is used to fetch the video so it can be re-uploaded as a playable attachment.
- Identifiers needed to respond. Your Discord user ID and the channel/interaction context, so the bot can reply to you and so the delete button works.
When you visit this website
- Standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) processed by our hosting provider for security and to serve the site.
- Advertising & cookie data via Google AdSense — see Cookies & advertising.
When you use GiphyFy Studio (web)
GiphyFy Studio runs in your browser. The images, video, or GIFs you load into it are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to or stored by us.
04 What we store
GiphyFy is built to be stateless. The media and message content you submit to the bot is processed in memory or in temporary files that are deleted as soon as the GIF is generated. We do not keep a copy of the GIFs we create — once delivered, they live wherever Discord stores message attachments.
Safety exception. To detect and act on illegal content — in particular child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and non-consensual sexual content — we may scan submitted content and preserve relevant records where the law requires or permits it. See our Trust & Safety page.
06 How we use data
- To provide the Services — turning your messages, files, and links into GIFs and delivering them back to you.
- To keep the Services secure, prevent abuse, and detect and act on illegal content.
- To operate and fund the website, including showing advertising.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases: performance of a service you request, our legitimate interests (security and abuse prevention), legal obligation, and consent (for advertising cookies).
08 Retention
Content submitted to the bot is deleted immediately after processing. Technical logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operation. Records preserved for safety or legal reasons are kept only for as long as necessary for that purpose or as the law requires.
09 Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because we generally do not store the content you submit, there is usually little personal data for us to act on — but you can still contact us to make a request.
To exercise any right, reach us via our Discord support server. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
10 Children
GiphyFy is not directed at children. You must meet Discord's minimum age requirement (at least 13, or older where local law requires) to use the bot. We have zero tolerance for content that sexualises minors; see our Trust & Safety page.
11 Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the Services and the limited data we process. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12 Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be announced through GiphyFy or our Discord server.
