Turn a Discord message into a GIF

GiphyFy's signature trick: take any Discord message and turn it into a clean, pixel-perfect screenshot, delivered back as a GIF you can share anywhere. Here are all the ways to do it.

01 The fastest way: right-click

On desktop, every message has a hidden menu of app actions. GiphyFy lives there:

  1. Hover the message you want and click the ••• (More) button on the right.
  2. Open Apps in that menu.
  3. Choose 📸 Screenshot GIF.
  4. Done. GiphyFy renders the message and posts it back as a GIF within a couple of seconds.

The screenshot reproduces the avatar, username, role colour, timestamp and text exactly as Discord displays them — it looks like a real screenshot, not re-typed text.

02 On mobile

The same action works on the Discord mobile app:

  1. Long-press the message.
  2. Tap Apps in the menu that appears.
  3. Tap 📸 Screenshot GIF.

03 Reply and mention

Prefer not to dig through menus? Reply to the message and mention @GiphyFy in your reply. GiphyFy screenshots the message you replied to and posts the GIF. This is handy on mobile or when you're already typing.

04 By message ID

You can also screenshot a message you can't easily right-click using /screenshot:

  1. Turn on Developer Mode (Settings → Advanced → Developer Mode).
  2. Right-click (or long-press) the message and choose Copy Message ID.
  3. Run /screenshot and paste the ID into the message_id field.

05 The delete button

Every GIF comes with a 🗑️ Delete button. Only you (the creator) or the author of the original message can press it, so a misfire is never permanent. No moderator tools needed.

06 Tips

  • It works in DMs and group chats too, if you added GiphyFy as a User App.
  • Long messages are wrapped just like Discord wraps them, so multi-line jokes still read correctly.
  • Want to convert your own image or clip instead of a message? See photo to GIF and video to GIF.
