Convert a photo to a GIF

Need an image as a GIF — so it autoplays inline, works as a reaction, or drops neatly into chat? GiphyFy converts PNG, JPG and WEBP files in one command.

01 Why convert a photo to a GIF

A still GIF behaves differently from a regular image attachment on Discord — it embeds and loops cleanly, plays nicely as a quick reaction, and keeps a consistent look across clients. Converting a photo is also the easiest way to standardise odd formats (like WEBP) into something universally supported.

02 Convert it

  1. Type /giphyfy in any chat where GiphyFy is available.
  2. Attach your image to the file option.
  3. (Optional) set quality to High or Sharp — see below.
  4. Send. GiphyFy returns a ready-to-share GIF with a delete button.

03 High vs Sharp — pick the right one

This single option makes the biggest difference to how your GIF looks:

QualityBest forHow it looks
high (default)Photos, art with gradientsSmooth blends via dithering
sharpPixel art, logos, screenshots, textCrisp, hard edges, no dithering

Rule of thumb: photographs love High; anything with flat colours or text looks cleaner on Sharp.

04 Formats & transparency

  • Supported: PNG, JPG and WEBP.
  • Transparency: GIFs from photos are flattened onto a solid background, so transparent PNGs come out with a white backing rather than see-through.

05 Tips

  • Start from the highest-resolution source you have — GiphyFy can only work with the detail that's in the file.
  • Converting a screenshot full of text? Use Sharp so the words stay legible.
  • For animated results from a clip, use video to GIF instead.
